Why Pursue A Higher Education

Some people question whether higher education is worth spending years (and money) towards earning a degree or training for a trade. But statistics make it clear... over time, continuing adult education is well worth the investment of time and money.

For example, take these numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau (1997-1999 data):

No High School Diploma: $23,400/yr
High School Graduate: $30,400/yr
Associate's Degree: $36,800/yr
Bachelor's Degree: $52,200/yr
Master's Degree: $62,300/yr

As you can see, the more time you invest in your education, the more likely you are to earn a higher income. Additionally, most employers place higher value on an applicant that has completed a degree or holds a diploma or certificate in a specialized area. Employers will generally choose the applicant with higher education credentials.

There are other benefits of higher education as well. The world and technology are changing, more jobs require education beyond high school and, with a college education or vocational training, you will be better prepared for a changing work environment. Several years ago, many expected to be in the same career for most of their lives. Workers today will face multiple careers in the years ahead -- some that don't even exist yet! For instance, think of all of the new jobs that have been created due to the internet!
